The 1962 World's Fair in Seattle, Washington!

Well I thought this would be a great time to tell you that today (April 21) is the 49th anniversary of the World's Fair that made Seattle a memorable city. I am a huge fan of World's fairs, mostly Century 21 (Seattle). The World's Fair was held at what is now Seattle Center. The 28 acre land held the Space Needle, Science Pavilion (Pacific Science Center), Coliseum (Key Arena), just to name a few.
The thing I absolutely love about this World's Fair is that all they wanted to know is what the future would hold. Being in the 21st century, I believe that we have not accomplished the things of which we should have with transportation, architecture, design, fashion, and making the world what it should be. Sure, they introduced the push-button phone to us and architectural style that we would see for a few remaining years and now it seems that we have thrown all of the ideas of what the future should be in the garbage. All of the hard work of the men and women have created has all been overlooked. I think that if we would have played our cards right, that electric cars would have been not such a new thing and would have foreign oil. Think of the Monorail, that could have been our transportation for around this country. I wish that the world was more simple than how it was back in the day. So remember this day as Seattle history!
Oh by the way, I will be volunteer at the 50th anniversary of the World's Fair so come on over and take a part of history. Maybe you could volunteer as well!!

April- Diamond!

Bling bling! Here is a room that made me inspired:
When I was looking at what rooms I wanted to write about for the month of April, I wanted something clean, texture, and bright. This room says it all. Here are the things I love, love, love, about this room: the floor is a beautiful wood(?) floor that has some sheen to it. The tile bench gives enough texture to the room to set of that ornate screen. I am pretty sure this room is a dressing room/office. The pendent looks very Victorian and it looks like an easy D.I.Y. craft.
With this room, I tell to you, be creative, whimsical, and be daring. Being creative with your materials. Try to get outdoor lattice and nail it up on either wall or under a chair rail, paint it the same color of your wall and it will look like you have custom details. Being whimsical can be very hard. Either a Jonathan Adler pottery, or a funny piece of art could do the job. How to be daring: People may think of red and black being 'daring' colors but in fact white can be a daring color as well.
All in all, this room is light, bright, daring, and white. Be creative!

Favorite Thing Friday!

Yes, yes I know, it has been a few weeks but I am back in action! This week I saw many accessories and this one really caught my eye:
This is an origami inspired horse that is made out of antiqued silver polyresin. This will make a statement in your room because of the dimensions. It is 13.5" tall and 16.5" long. This item reminds me of a Cubism that Pablo Picasso had done. So if you are feeling daring and want to make a statement in your room, go to ZGallerie.com or go in the store. You may find something else there you love.

Favorite Thing Friday!

Well as you all know, I went to Leavenworth last weekend and we stopped at an antique store with a lot of great items from the World's Fair (which I am obsessed with) and little things here and there. There were a few things that I loved, such as a metal bread box with Tiffany's Blue sides. From all of the stuff I saw, the one thing that made my favorites list for this week is:
I love mid-century items. This was one of the most interesting dining set I have seen. The swooping of the arm and tapering of the legs are the most thing I love about this piece. Although the seat covers are a beige leather, they looked like it would be an easy fix.The beauty of this whole dining set was that it was only $900! What in the world?!

Leavenworth!

Last weekend, my family and I took a day trip over across the mountains to go into Leavenworth.

Leavenworth has it's own style in this little town. Hoping to land tourists from around states surrounding Washington. The head of the community board decided to change what the appearance looked like. Having the beautiful views of the snow capped hills made them think of a Bavarian village. Not only did they change the faces of the town, going from that style, the many festivals for the ones who want to have a little fun but still have the comforts of being in the states including: The Autumn Leaf Festival, and they popular Christmas Lighting Ceremony. By doing these festivals, they have succeeded in what they wanted to achieve. More than one million tourist come to Leavenworth each year. With many stores to look from, I would say it is a great place to go for the weekend or the day! Once you're over there, go check out the local antique store named Apple Annie's Antiques. It is huge!! I found an awesome mid-century dining table and chairs for only $900! It will be my favorite thing for Friday! Stay tunned.

Favorite thing Friday!

This week I went to Crate&Barrel in Bellevue Square. I was there at the right time because they were setting up the new vignettes I saw this one couch that stood out to me.
It is a white leather with a tufted back. I could not sit in it because they were working on the whole idea of the vignette but it looks more comfortable in reality than what the picture has to offer. Over all this is a really great looking modern sofa for under $2,000. Check it out at your local Crate&Barrel: http://www.crateandbarrel.com/Stores/

March- Aquamarine!

When I saw this picture, I about flew out of my pants! This was one of my top favorite pictures I have seen done in aquamarine. (Nice rhyme)
Now this is an attic I want to live in! This office would be the most distracting and most interesting space to work in. Paring white with blue is a great way to keep the space light and airy. My all time favorite part of this room is the back wall. First, they have a wall decal of a tree. Then over top of that are these pictures of family maybe..? Creating a family tree? The lamps are very symmetrical to this very eclectic room. Many would think of blue being a seaside retreat but this is more shabby chic. The table is done with impeccable detail. That is what makes the chic into shabby chic. The styling is done with great taste! I would say there is a little too much on the desk. And a lack of storage is key in an office. So we have a great looking room but not that functional.

February!-Amethyst

I know, I know. It is not February anymore. I sat down on the 26th of February and I guess I did not have the guts to post it... This room is not my style but it is done very well. I can appreciate many rooms even though they are not my style. So being in the February mood, here is the room that inspired me to work in all colors:

This room reminds me of a girls room in the attic in an old farm house looking over the land of France. The reason this room was executed correctly was the use of pattern and color. Many would not choose a toile, a check and a bold in the same room. Never fear the use of pattern! The bed makes me think it should be up against a wall like a daybed. Although it is not a day bed, I think you could use it any way. Having the canopy over the bed makes the bed the focal point of the room. Not only do those foot stools look great, they are also very functional! I would recommend the idea of these. They are really great for putting on shoes, socks, extra seating for friends etc. etc. The simplicity of the bedding creates a great non-patterened item in room. All in all we see a successful french county room done in Amethyst!

January-Garnet!

So to begin the year I thought it may be fun to write about birthstones. Each month I will write about a picture of a room that I found to be a clear representation of the colors. Finding rooms that are garnet (Red) is really hard task to accomplish. I looked the other direction and went with an accent color to be the focal point. Here is this months picture.
Although this is an accent color, it is the first thing your eye goes to. Everyone mostly knows of the one who created this. She is Candice Olson of Divine Design and also Candice Tells All. What she has is a gray base around the room. She picks up the gray from the walls and puts it down on the carpet and in the accent pillows and throw. What goes best with gray? Black of course! To top it all off, the touch of unexpected is the zebra rug on top of the carpet. So black, gray, red, white, and brown make up this beautiful 1940's era feeling room into a 2000's greatest hit.
